{"id":6062,"date":"2017-03-06T12:28:37","date_gmt":"2017-03-06T10:28:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.velehrad.org.uk\/?p=6062"},"modified":"2017-03-06T12:28:37","modified_gmt":"2017-03-06T10:28:37","slug":"battersea-choral-society-presents-dvoraks-stabat-mater","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.velehrad.org.uk\/?p=6062","title":{"rendered":"Battersea Choral Society Presents Dvor\u00e1k&#8217;s Stabat Mater"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Saturday 25 March members of Battersea Choral Society, with The Battersea Ensemble and world-class soloists, will perform one of the most beautiful and most moving pieces of music by Dvor\u00e1k.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Stabat Mater, a cantata based on the text from a devotional poem written in Latin in the 13th century, probably by a Franciscan monk, and Dvor\u00e1k&#8217;s first work on a religious theme.<br \/>\nWhilst grieving, the composing of the cantata was Dvor\u00e1k&#8217;s reaction to the death of his daughter. The first performance took place on 23 December 1880, in Prague.
