On Saturday 25 March members of Battersea Choral Society, with The Battersea Ensemble and world-class soloists, will perform one of the most beautiful and most moving pieces of music by Dvor\u00e1k.<\/p>\n
Stabat Mater, a cantata based on the text from a devotional poem written in Latin in the 13th century, probably by a Franciscan monk, and Dvor\u00e1k’s first work on a religious theme.
\nWhilst grieving, the composing of the cantata was Dvor\u00e1k’s reaction to the death of his daughter. The first performance took place on 23 December 1880, in Prague. It premiered at the Royal Albert Hall in 1883.<\/p>\n
With the Feast of the Annunciation (25 March-Lady Day) and Mothering Sunday (26 March) it will be a weekend for reflection and appreciation.<\/p>\n
